FAIRFAX
STUDENT PROJECT
Fairfax Tea is a boutique brand of loose leaf tea. It’s design is intended to appeal to a middle-aged market, drawn by a desire for a high quality product but also an intrigue in the mysterious and spiritual.
The brand’s back story is around an infamous 19th century London psychic, Agnes Fairfax, who is said to have discovered Jack the Ripper’s identity through her tea-leaf reading and mysteriously disappeared shortly afterwards. The product’s packaging and materials play on this mysticism—encouraging its consumers to try their hand at tea-leaf reading through the use of symbolism and provision of guides.
The packaging design is intended to evoke a sense of heritage via a Linocut effect and serif font whilst particular tea’s labels invite curiosity through their associated tea-leaf symbols.
